Paris December 10, 2009
On the occasion of the Human
Rights Award of the French Republic 2009, the Palestinian NGO Network (PNGO)
wishes to express its gratitude to the National Consultative Commission for
Human Rights and to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs for choosing PNGO to
win this award.
The PNGO Network comprises 132
member organizations in the West Bank, Jerusalem
and the Gaza Strip working in different areas of development. Its values are
clear: the strengthen the role played by NGOs with an independent Palestinian
state (a Palestinian state according to the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its
capital, the dismantling of all settlements and a just solution based on
international legality to the issue of refugees) based on the principles of democracy,
social justice and respect for international law as defined by UN resolutions.
Today, PNGO is recognized for
having launched the National Campaign to Defend Freedoms and Human Rights and
the Restoration of National Unity in Palestine,
the goal of which is to put an end to political divisions that have a crucial
impact on social cohesion and the future of the nation's struggle for
Palestinian freedom.
The Human Rights Award of the French Republic
in 2009 is an expression of French support for the independence of the
Palestinian people and the work of Palestinian civil society. It is now urgent
that the French government transforms this support into concrete action. The
Palestinian and French people have been waiting too long.
PNGO dedicates this award to the
Palestinian people and the national organizations struggling to achieve
Palestinian national rights and the rule of law.
