Earlier today on the 18th of October 2017, Israeli occupying forces stormed several governorates in the West Bank and raided eight Media offices, confiscating equipment and closing some of them down. Two Palestinians were arrested; Ammar Al Jabari & Ibrahim Al Jabari that work at Trans Media News Channel.
According to Palestinian reports, the media companies raided include Trans Media in Hebron, Al Bireh and Nablus, Pal Media in Hebron, Bethlehem, Nablus and Al Bireh, and Ram Sat in Hebron. These media companies provide services to various international, local and regional agencies.
Palestinian Non-Governmental Organizations Network calls upon all Duty Bearers especially the International Community and the P.A. to hold Israeli occupation accountable for raiding Palestinian Media Offices. These raids are serious violations committed against Palestinian Freedoms and Human Rights especially freedom of press. These attacks are systematic assaults against the Palestinian people especially journalists and media offices in order to instill fear, terrorize and silence the Palestinian population.
Duty Bearers need to support the rights for the effective implementation of freedom of speech and freedom of press. The Universal Declaration on Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948 was acknowledged in Article 19: “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through and media and regardless of frontiers.”
