The Palestinian Non-Governmental Network warns of the Israeli decision restricting the work of international institutions
12-22-2024
The Palestinian Non-Governmental Network (PNGO) has raised concerns about the diminishing space for civil society and international organizations following the Israeli government's announcement on December 9. This new and arbitrary decision imposes restrictions on the registration and activities of international NGOs, which will inevitably obstruct their operations in Palestine, control aid distribution, and silence voices that highlight the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation.
This announcement coincides with an alarming increase in genocidal acts by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip. It follows the release of numerous international reports confirming that the occupation has committed genocide and calling for accountability. The most recent reports from Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have underscored this issue.
PNGO urges international organizations not to respond to the occupation’s pressures by altering their messaging or avoiding the exposure of the occupation's violations. Instead, it is essential to amplify their voices and intensify efforts to halt the genocide committed by the occupation and to uphold all rights guaranteed under international law, ensuring justice for the victims.
Additionally, PNGO calls upon the international community, including parliaments, to safeguard the right to form associations and to protect them from encroachments by the occupation that seeks to stifle their voices. Ensuring freedom of action and expression is vital. PNGO contends that international organizations that yield to the occupation's pressures compromise fundamental humanitarian standards and ignore the rights and suffering of the victims, which all organizations and entities must strive to uphold.
